245 engine tick-tack 200 1989

My 1989 245 has a little engine noise; to the untrained ear it sounds like what I have heard referred to as a "valve tap." Is that the correct term? Anyway, it's there, always has been since I bought the car a year ago. My Volvo mechanic has seen the car and driven it a few times since then and never mentioned it.

Is this just the sound that a Volvo motor makes or should I start to be more concerned? I was considering a tank of "high test" to see if that helped. Or maybe it's just the sound of a happy Volvo motor with close to 300,000 miles under it's belt.

Thanks for the advice.

D.
