Tailgate Wiring Harnesses - need OEM or just aftermarket? 200 1993

Hey all,

I just bought a 1993 245, and both of the tailgate harnesses need to be replaced, so...

1. Any good tutorials out there? This is a new project for me.
2. I've seen the OEM (passenger side) for about $50, and a few other brands for about $15 each (both sides available). Is the OEM "tougher" so they won't break as soon?
3. Is there any way to know if I have the "spade" type connectors or the "bullet" connectors without removing the door? (my wife wouldn't be too keen on driving a tailgateless car around).
4. Are the aftermarket brands similar quality?

Thanks!
