NO START 200 1987

My 1987 244 DL(automatic) won't start. It has 144000+ miles on it and runs perfectly when it starts, which recently is rarely. The fuses are fine, the distributor cap, igniton switch, and various corroded wires have been replaced. When I turn the key the engine cranks very fast and you can smell gas.

The ignition switch was replaced today and it started hard but I thought that was the best I was going to get and when I got it home it wouldn't start later.

Before the ignition switch was replaced it cranked slower than it does now. I have tried starting it in neutral and that doesn't work either.

Side note the owner before me installed power windows(not standard in this car) and a new stereo which has 2 speakers. There are 2(more?) extra fuses attached to the battery. I say this because i'm wondering if anybody else has done this and knows if it takes too much power from the electrical system.

Any help at all is really appreciated. Thanks
