water pump replacement 30 years ago I remember doing one. 140-160

Hi to all,
I haven't done one of these in about 30 years. If I remember correctly the top of the pump whith the two 0rings buts up against the bottom of the head and has to be pushed up there pretty tight while someone lines up the bolts and secures them.
What is best to use on the gasket which faces the block? Silicone? Permatex? back then stuck up in Vermont I don't recall what I used?
Thank you in advance,
CU
