940 nonturbo No start and no DTC for A2 and A6, A3=111 B2=122, B5=111 900 1995

Dear Pilicer,

May this find you well. As the car ran well, albeit briefly, that likely means the Engine and Ignition Control Units are in good order. These items seems to fail only rarely.

Have you checked the ignition power stage? Do You have spark?

On a non-turbo car with Bosch fuel and ignition management, this device is mounted on the driver's side fender wall (North American models), just behind the headlamp. On a car with Rex-Regina Fuel/Ignition management, the coil and ignition power rsage is a box-shaped item, with fins, mounted on the front of the driver's side strut tower.

Check the ignition power stage connectors for corrosion. A good used unit from a salvage yard is a quick way to assess the health of the factory-original unit.

A clue is that the car re-started after an hour. When a failing ignition power stage over-heats, it disrupts the flow of power to the spark plugs. A failing coil - a far rarer event - can do the same thing. When the item cools, it resumes working.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
