Charging system problem? 91 240 200 1991

Hello.

Today while doing errands my SRS light came on when I started my car and stayed on for a about 10 or so seconds before going off (stayed on longer than other warning lights). This did this a few times. Then when heading home my radio kept going off and on intermittently. When I parked the car at home all the warning lights came on. I shut the car off and when I tried to start it, it was dead. No cranking, no starter relay noise, nothing.

I checked the battery voltage and was getting about 11.5. I put the battery on a charger for a few hours and got 12.85 when I checked the voltage again. I put the key in turned it to "on" and the service, battery, parking brake, brake warning and bulb our lights come on very dimly, with the SRS very bright. The car started up fine but the service, battery, parking brake, brake warning and bulb out lights stay on but very dimly lit. Revving the engine didn't make them any brighter or make them go out.

I checked the battery voltage while the car was running and only got about 12.5. I turned on headlights and heater fan and voltage dropped to 12.40-12.35.
I got the same voltage readings at the big red wire on the back of the alternator and ground.

Is this simply just a bad alternator? I read the 700/900 FAQ and now I am worried there might be bad solder joints on the instrument cluster. Or something worse.

Thanks
DC
