240 sedan rear defrost problem 200 1992

Do you have a test light? Something to trace voltage?

The switch's light may be burned out, so don't rely on that indicator as a clue to the problem. The '92 uses a delay relay, and depends on two (2) fuses, #11 and #12. When checking a fuse, either assure yourself other items it feeds are working, or actually trace the voltage to the right hand side contact. Observation alone doesn't cut it.

I would start at the relay, located near the driver's feet and identified by its large yellow and blue/black wires, plus smaller yellow-red, black, and yellow. Check for voltage with key on (in KP-II) at the blue/black wire. Turning the defroster switch "on" should then cause voltage to appear at the yellow-red wire and finally at the yellow wires, which run to the heating element.

If you get nothing on the yellow-red wire, trace it back through the defroster switch to fuse #12 on a blue/yellow wire.

The console front will come away enough to see behind it if you remove the two plastic 1/4-turn fasteners at the side panels and the two torx screws above, plus two at the very bottom at the carpet line.

If you have no test light, you can pick one up at Wally World for $4.
