There is no replacement "interval" as you know, but 30K seems excessive.
If you don't know how old it is and you are concerned, spend the 60 bucks and just change it for peace of mind.

I second checking the clutch fork as I've had one fail a few years ago. It was an early fork which I changed to the later style. It is very dificult to check though because it is hard to see where it cracks. But yea, if you find you are adjusting the clutch on a weekly basis to take up free play, it is more likely the fork than the cable.

Seems like getting a good aftermarket cable is hit-or-miss. Gemo makes a replacement but of the two I've bought, one was creaking and sticking after only about 2 years. No amount of lube would give lasting performance.
