Underhood component with vacuum line, what is it for? 900

Just bought a 1991 940 GLE wagon and was checking under the hood and found a kinked vacuum hose that comes from the intake manifold and goes to a diaphram device with a electrical connector that is on the drivers side, right behind the core support mounted on the fender- can anyone tell me what this is for? Also do you think I can take an EGR off of a single cam motor instead of getting a new one, I have plenty to get from pick and pull.
