John,

I expect you will be fine towing a std on the flat w/o disconnecting the driveshaft, but it is a long way and it is pretty easy to disconnect it at the rear end and tie it up. So, you might want to error on the side of caution. Also, if you have a mechanical odometer, it will keep a bunch of miles off of the odometer.

I towed a std Saab from CA to KY without problems, but disconnecting the drive on a FWD car is a lot more problematic than with an RWD car. If it had been an RWD car I might have disconnected it.

I've pulled std trans MGs for 5 or 7 hundred miles with no problem, but for 2400 miles I might decide to disconnect the shaft.
