B230's and Block Heater 700

Ok, so now I'm way past the point of no return on the head replacement project and have an opportunity to change out the block heater since it's easily accessed now.

Photobucket

(That's a t-shirt at the bottom there, to block debris.)

So I loosened but haven't removed the centre screw but I can't figure out how the wriggle the unit out. I can see the element inside is just caked with crud and I think replacing it is the way to go. What do you guys think?

Thanks.
