I confess, I save no money doing my own oil changes 200

It's not the parts even though I use a quality filter (Mann or sometimes Volvo if I can get it cheaply) and oil (Valvoline MaxLife synthetic blend). It's the time I spend doing it! If I were to pay myself what mechanics get paid, the cost would probably be near a hundred or perhaps more.

When I do an oil change, I plan ahead to make time and I take my sweet time doing it. I go the extra length to do things that I know other shops won't do, like covering up the engine mount below the filter so that oil doesn't get on it. I also wipe and clean the lip of the filter housing where the filter seal mates to. I clean the plug and magnet, wipe the oil pan clean and other parts where oil is under the car. I don't force myself to do these things; it's just part of the oil change for me.
