Differences between 1983 starter & 1991 starter 200 1991

I picked up a sweet rust-free 91 245 yesterday for $250 after hitting a deer in my 83 245 saturday night and sidelining her indefinitly. The 91 has no starter on it and I cross referenced the parts and they take different starters but I am curious what the difference is since the 91 has no starter for me to compare. I figure it is bolt pattern or the number of teeth on the gear but I am just curious what they changed if anyone knows.
