R134 Retrofit: fitting new evaporator? 200

Howdy all,

87 245 in Texas. I'm converting the AC to R134. I've got the Volvo retrofit kit with the swishy parallel flow evaporator. Finally took out the old fin and tube evaporator and it was really cruddy. New evaporator is a tight fit. I assume the new evaporator will still require the plastic evaporator box cover to be installed--I ask this because the last inch seems to be difficult to fit in the box. Pretty tight. Anyone done this before and can provide some insight?
