Why the extra 2 screws on the golve box? 200

I had to remove the glove on my 92 240 today to access the OD relay.I figured a 3 minute job tops.Low and behold the box has 2 extra screws in it.One on each side near the bottom and close to the hinges.What a royal PIA that was.The screw could not be reached with any screw driver except for one with a 90 degree bend in it,good thing I had one.But a 3 minute job turned into almost a 30 min. nightmare.I could only turn the screw maybe 1/4 turn at a time.Needless to say I did not reinstall these.Who came up with that geat idea?
