Will that surface seal? 200 1989

I'm about to put new water pump on the B200 engine. It's the first time I'm doing it on this particular engine. It seems that the one I took off was original, 250kkm Volvo pump. Thanks to that, cleaning the surface on the block was a real PITA, haven't had so much fun since working on transmission's output shaft bushing. The old gasket was so hard that in few places it was difficult to tell it apart from the block roughness.

Anyway I don't like what I see, the surface is rough and I'd like to ask you guys if you think it'll seal with dry paper gasket only. And if you think I should use some chemical sealer please advise what'd be the best - plain RTV or something more sophisticated (preferably from Permatex as I have a good supply close to where I live).

Thanks in advance.

Oh, and the photo shows there is some gasket left near the upper stud. I'll scrap it tomorrow :)
