M41 oil type? 140-160

I have an early type m41 that is currently removed from the car. I have a 1974 140 factory service manual, it says to use SAE 30 Motor oil. Before I reinstalled the trans, I changed the oil using SAE 30 . After I was done changing the oil, I noticed a small leak coming from the speedometer cable output shaft that wasn’t there before I changed the oil.... Any chance the older M41s used thicker oil? ... or do I have a new gasket to replace? Thanks for the help.
