Howdy Volvoheads...
87 245 in sunny Austin, Texas.
Lots of projects being done, but before all that started the battery/parking brake/brake failure (and maybe other) warning lights would come on intermittently while driving. Corresponding decrease in cold cranking power from battery. Lights would go off at higher RPMs. Lights come on at low RPMs and during turns. Loss of most of power steering while lights are on as well.
So I do the 'ol Brickboard search and find the advice about voltage regulators, wiring and batteries.
Battery was new in March. Nice Volvo battery, no problems until October.
Replaced voltage regulator at the same time as the battery.
Just replaced engine wiring harness. Everything works great, but the dash lights problem persists.
Coincidentally, the idle air control motor and throttle switch were just replaced, plus an upgrade to the 554 ECU (this is LH 2.2). Idles fine, warning lights come on intermittently still, no matter if I use the new or old ECU.
Just replaced alternator with new Bosch unit with new voltage regulator. Still the dash light problem persists, but not as bad. Been driving in 2nd gear today to get high RPMs in hope that maybe this will all go away.
Checked blue ground wire from alternator to chassis--seems fine.
Thinking of replacing the pos and neg battery cables anyway, and I've noticed the knock sensor connection is flaky. These two items probably aren't related, but you never know.
Advice please, on the matter of the flickering lights. This is getting to be annoying.
