Instrument panel problems 700

When I 1st start the car in the morning, the instruments don't work. Only at 1st start. The battery light comes on and after a drive 3 - 5 miles, every gauge works again. I even put a new battery in this weekend and still the problem exists. I have a 87 740 turbo wagen.
