testing fuel pressure 200 1990

Hi Matt,

Before doing your delivery test, try listening to the fuel rush through the return line just aft of the fuel pressure regulator. Listen in the rubber section, where you'd pull it off to do the delivery test. If you hear fuel, you can verify by quickly giving the hose a squeeze - you'll feel the resistance as you build pressure, and if you listen closely you'll hear the regulator's ball valve slapping. Hearing or feeling the fuel in the return line tells you the pressure is reaching the regulator setpoint and excess fuel is being returned to the tank, meaning you have what it takes for the injectors to properly meter the fuel if the regulator is not defective.

If still in doubt, which you will be with an intermittent, go ahead and let it run into a jug, but this does not sound to me like a problem with a clogged filter or main pump the way you describe it. Never know, though, with my hearing impediment.
