Starting problem on '90 245 200 1990

Hi All,

I have a 1990 245 with a no start problem. It used to start reliably, but 95% of the time it was on the second try (turn the key, crank the engine – a little or a lot, it didn’t matter – release the key, turn it again and it would start right up). About a month ago it wouldn’t start and hasn’t started since. With a little starting fluid at the air filter it will start and run beautifully for about 5 seconds, then die. The OBD gives the 1-1-1 code (no problems). The fuel pumps are running, but just to be sure I jumpered the left side of fuses 4 to 6 – no change. I replaced the fuel pump relay with a new Volvo unit. I connected a ground wire to the blue wire w/green stripe coming out of the relay, to no effect. I used a stethoscope to listen to the injectors, but there is no sound there (they’re supposed to make a buzzing sound aren’t they?). I installed a new speed (RPM) sensor, no change. Tried starting it with the AMM disconnected, no luck. The ECM at the firewall in the passenger footwell is 0 227 400 140, the Jetronic ECM is 0 280 000 556.

Might it be one of the ECM’s or did I miss something obvious?

It looked through the site and didn't find a reference to this type of problem (or I wasn't smart enough to make the connection).

Thank you in advance for your help.
