740 clutch slipping after new slave, adjusting clutch pedal.. what else ? 1987

1987 volvo 740 turbo wagon

just overhauled the slave cylinder because of leaking

slave works fine

problem is clutch now slips

it feels like the clutch is always half disengaged, there is no air in the hydraulic system and that wouldn't cause it to do that anyway

it's as if the slave is always holding hydraulic pressure since i found that the rod that goes between slave cylinder piston and clutch fork is under too much tension and impossible to take out unless i release hydraulic pressure

is the clutch pedal adjustable ? any tips ?

any input greatly appreciated..
