940 Turbo Reliability?? VERY reliable if properly maintained

No need to worry. If you were looking at a Chrysler K-car with turbo, certainly you'd want to steer clear, but Volvo sold hundreds of thousands of turbo-engined cars, and they serve their owners well. The 940 was the last and best of the rear drive cars, refined and dependable. Turbo cars require a bit more maintenance with oil changes and, as with any old car, you have to be careful that previous owners did proper maintenance. Also consider: with a 15-year-old car, the engine is not likely to be the main source of trouble. You will be fixing minor or major issues with climate control, suspension, steering, cracked tail lights, water leaks, rust, and electrics.
