Power Steering Pump whines like a teenager 200 1993

Car has 161,000 miles. Have begun to noticed a power steering pump whine. It was fine until I had the front end on jacks and was replacing suspension components and I moved the wheel direction by hand. Could I have induced a failure. I have fully cycled it left to right with the engine running.

Doesn't seem to whine until the power steering hydraulic system gets warmed up. I suctioned off the reservoir and added new fluid (Dexron III), cycled steering, then repeated this cycle until I had replaced a quarts worth of fluid. I noticed some change but not enough to wait until it fails and it takes the rack with it. I've used a stethoscope and there is no doubt that it's the pump.

Is there something else I can do other than replacing the pump?

If I have to replace the pump, should I replace the pump and reservoir as a unit or simply replace the pump and transfer the reservoir? Reservoir is not leaking.

What is folks experiences with remanufactured power steering pumps (new is expensive, but I could be swayed)?

Would you add an aftermarket filter like NAPAs NSP81FLT2 or IPD's.
