anticipated purchase of a S90 volvo. S90-V90 1998

Hi all! I presently drive a 1990 740 turbo wagon and want to update to a S90 sedan. Having had 230,000 miles of driving on my auto and for the most part trouble free outside of the usual my question is is the S90 a less trouble free car than mine? I have heard stories of high and expensive maintenance and repairs. is there any truth to this?
