Seat Belt Wiring - cut wire? 200 1993

Hey All,
Traced a recurring short in fuse 16 to the driver's seat belt release button . Push the button and fuse blows. Took apart and don't fully understand wiring. There's 3 wires - gnd and a hot for the light and then a 3rd wire. Does this talk to the chimes and seat belt light? I always thought seatbelt light just came on for a predetermined time - was I wrong? Seems I must have buggered these contacts when I replaced the bulb a while back. Now I just want to cut that 3rd wire and push all the contacts out of the way so it doesn't short but not if that seatbelt light will stay lit or even worse thought is it talks to the SRS system - I'm not messing there ever. Does anyone know the function of that wire? Looks like a little piece of plastic might have been pushed down by the button and separated 2 contacts but they're all bent up now. A cursory look thru Bentleys wiring diagram this morning but could not find the seat belts.
Thanks,
Robb
