b18 spec question 120-130

The D cam is actually dual pattern if you get a proper one. VPD's SP cam is a dual pattern too, it's pretty much a D inlet with an Isky VV-71 for the exhaust. Phil S sells cams too I think.

What cam do you have now?

I've just had a head ported & the valves replaced

Do you have any flow figures for your head? (If you do a good job on the exhaust, you may not need a dual pattern cam)

What sort of compression are using? (low compression can use less exhaust duration than high compression)

For torque & economy, you want the inlet to have duration in the range of 210-220°@.050" & .280" to .300" lobe lift. For most twin SU cars, the limiting factor is the manifold & SU's after you have fixed the exhaust ports in the head.

The stock K cam with approx 215°@.050" & .282" lobe lift would be suitable & lasts forever. The D cam with approx 222°@.050" & .283" lobe lift is harsher & has trouble lasting to 100,000 miles is a good candidate when combined with a more gentle exhaust. (It's nearly always the exhaust that falls of first when using the some profile for both lobes.)

What springs are you using? If you are staying with stock springs, the K cam is it. The D or bigger really needs dual springs.
