Ball joint fit to control arm, interference? 700 1991

Had a clink on some road bumps & during low speed turning. Classic ball joint gone bad. I replaced the joint. When I removed it I noticed that the inside of the control arm was corroded & definately not an interference fit to the ball joint. I could tell there was no side to side movement because of the distinct circular impressions on the joint body. There would be lines, metal transfer etc. if the joint moved.

My question is should this be an interference fit?
