940 started, then died in -6F weather

Morning was going O.K. until I had to go out and start my 940 to run some errands.
The car started with some glorious screeching sounds and idled a bit and then started to stutter and then died (while this is happening temp gauge is in the lowest position).

I try to restart it and the starter would work but it would not catch on. I even tried to give it a bit of extra gas (the tank was reading about 1/4 full), but it would not start again.

I think did it for a minute and now my battery does not have enough juice to try it out again.

Will have to wait a bit till it warms up.

On my second try while the starter was working the temperature gauge would bounce up and down from the lowest to about 1/4 of the scale (? what is it?)

So, do you guys think it's going to restart when I check on it later? Anything to check before i start it again (battery apparently, coolant seemed ok, oil was a bit like jelly)

Had to start an 850 that was sitting outside. It did start though. The clutch was hard to move. Not a pretty sight to see a car in this cold weather.

So it's half maintenance and half venting my frustration.

Any ideas?
