87 244 wire junction wiring? Temp sender & gauge 200

Later 240s have a wire junction block on the firewall roughly behind (and a little above) the intake manifold.

On my 87 the block has 4 wires: 3 small - yellow, black, red - and one larger blue/yellow.

The red is cit on each side of the block and sliced outside it. The large blue/ yellow runs through it. The yellow & black wires are cut and bent back.

I don't see the block in the wiring diagrams but I do see a yellow wire feeding the water temp gauge. Questions:

1. Is the temp-gauge wire yellow?
2. Black wire is for?
3. is the water temp sensor in the block under the intake manifold?

I've no idea why someone would cut those 2 wires. Often it's because of a short so I don't want to just reconnect them.
