RSR confusion?
I wouldn't troubleshoot by the size of wires.
Here's details of the 89 B230FT RSR

Pin 1 Black wire to Ground point N by the battery - Coil
Pin 2 Blue/yellow to FI relay - This is the RSR +12V coil

Pin 3 Green/Red 12V to ballast resistor & ECU, then injectors
Check for +12V (but the injectors are switched by the ECU
enabling the ground return)
Pin 4 Brown wire to battery +12V

notice that three of the relay pins are +12V. One is ground

Jumpering 3 and 4 will test RSR function- (You need 12v at the Green/Red)

Hunches: * Triple check that the piggyback red wire at the battery is OK
* Service your grounds especially at the intake manifold
