sliding automatic clutch - AW71 200 1987

Hi

I would like to seek professional help regarding my automatic transmission.

It all started with a small leak at the rear portion of the transmission, the rear oil seal and yolk bushing was replaced. A few weeks after, the leak still appeared but only when the propeller shaft is spinning.

Next, the OD switch lit up and remained ON despite of clicking the OD switch. A few days after, a humming sound emanated from the transmission and just the next day, the engine stalled. Similar to the symptoms of a manual transmission "sliding".

But after turning off the engine for a few minutes and cranking the engine afterwards, the brick again accelerates. But whenever I hear the humming sound again as a symptom of the AT sliding, I park the 240 in a safe place, turn off the engine and start up again and resume driving.

An automatic transmission mechanic diagnosed it as the clutch shavings/debris accumulating in the valve body preventing the circulation of the ATF, thus the stalling. Whenever the engine is turned off, the vacuum pressure is releases making the shavings/debris follow the law of gravity and accumulate on the valve body filter/pan.

A clutch disc rebuild kit was recommended and the cleaning of the valve body. I use Mobil 1 synthetic ATF and flushed the tranny twice in 2 years.

I would like to hear from those who have experienced the same fate as mine.
