B14 or B16 - how do you tell which? 444-544

My very first Volvo back in '62 was a '57 444. See one that may be for sale & I'm really interested in it. But the owner doesn't know which engine it is. All I can see from the pics is that it has the chrome valve cover with the filler cap in the middle. Had a very unpleasant experience with the B14 in mine - sent a piston through the block after 150 mls. on the interstate when I put in detergent oil for the first time. Thanks for all your help.
