245 loses power 200

I have an 85' 245, manual transmission (non turbo) that is giving me a problem. While driving along (speed doesn't seem to matter) I will lose power. I'll pull to the side of the road, (at this point the engine idles fine and rev's fine) turn it off and wait 5 min. and I'm good to go again. I can go 20 -30 miles or not. Sometimes only a few miles before it happens again. I've put in new plugs, wire, cap, roter, coil, - engine runs great! I'm thinking fuel pump (its noisy) or pressure regulator but those are expensive items - $200+ - to replace. I cant keep putting that kind of money in just trying to find the problem. Anyone have this happen or know whats going on? I'd really appreciate any input...
Thanks
Terry
