strut collapse 1987 245 dl 200

Hello:
I think the super cold weather has been affecting a lot of mechanical stuff. Now the left front of the car is lower and I have a very jiggly ride, like square tires. I assume this is a strut problem. I really need to drive car - carefully - for a while, but also need to figure what to order. Aside from inserts - and question of brand - and strut tower bearings - same question - I wonder if the metal tube needs procured from club member or junk yard? Perhaps make it easier to install if put together on bench, which seems to be popular now, with complete Monroe kits for domestic cars. Any thing else needed? Thoughts? Thanks!
