i have a 91 740 rex

what is this wire you speak of? Is it the red spade end one that goes to the ground bracket on the fender wall, right behind the driver headlight?

i just got thru a long struggle with mine to pass smog for high nox.

i found the vacuum line to the map sensor next to the brake booster had a cracked rubber tube end. take the map sensor off and check this as well.

along with some other work like all the exhaust and intake gaskets, it passed.
