overdrive problem 200 1993

Jack up the driver side of the car and support it with jack stands. Then climb underneath and inspect the white wire that runs from the shifter to the solenoid on the drivers side of the transmission, inspect it for missing insulation especially if things are caked in oil. Sometimes, the wire even comes unplugged from the solenoid. I have seen this issue on 3 out of 4 240s.

Note that you can either replace/splice the wire or wrap it in tape or heat shrink tubing if the insulation is shot.
