Won't start, sounds like no fuel 700 1990

Looking for a possible diagnosis on my 1990 740 turbo that won't start. All Fall the car was having sporadic "no start" episodes, some leaving the car stranded at points. Unfortunately not often enough to convince me to fix it. Usually when I let the car sit, or rolled it a bit, it would start. I can hear one pump working at the moment of turning the contact, and the engine will catch briefly but won't fire. This has been coupled for months with an inexplicable sudden racing of the accelerator while driving. Now the car won't fire at all. I live in Switzerland where parts and labor are expensive, so I would like to fix it myself if this sounds like a relay issue, or at least to know what I should be getting replaced.
Thanks.
