Changed U joints now steering wheel is off center 700 1992

I have a 1992 740 turbo wagon. I found a steering coupler on a low mileage 1993 960 and installed it on my car. The parts look the same. I put it togeather and took it for a driver, but the steering wheel is now off center to the left. It seems like the linkage would only go on one of two ways becasue it is slotted. So, what gives? How do I fix it? Thanks.
