...and study "Relay for Reversing Lights" and associated wiring...as you can see, that wiring diagram is for a BW35 equipped vehicle, but that is irrelevant in this case...wire to terminal 87 gets connected to chassis in either case to activate relay and supply power to backing lights...install relay on the little panel on inside fender and connect backing lights as shown (my condolences incidentally on the Lucas equipment) and control the relay by grounding switch retrofitted to lid or back of M40 OR a grounding switch on (or temporarily under, until transmission work can be done) dashboard.
