960 ENGINE REBUILD - top only 900 1992

Greg:
Looked at your pictures. I too did this job on my V90 a few years ago (seized idler resulted in thrown off timing belt). At the time I puzzled over how to assemble the upper head without buying expensive special tools. There will be considerable resistance from the valve springs and it will not go down into place easily. I got about 12 longer "starter bolts" and started pulling down the upper head evenly all around, just a few turns on each bolt at a time. As it went down I removed and restarted the bolts one at a time adding washers under the heads. This to avoid bottoming out these longer bolts. When it was down far enough I started in with the regular bolts and removing the longer starter bolts, then torqued it all down. Be sure to use the correct adhesive material between the 2 surfaces.
Good luck with the job.
