The windshield doesn't have to come out of the vehicle. Factory reproduction headliners are available through the usual suspects like VP-autoparts, vintageimportparts and the like. The last price that I got was about $167 for the 2 and four doors, and $170 for the wagons. If you take your time, and have a gentle heat gun to help, it isn't too much effort. Make sure that any sound deadening you use is inert, or it will stain your brand new headliner. Please don't ask me how I know this.
