So I went 2.5 years without a car. The last car I had was an 88 240 DL. Two months ago I bought a 89 DL. I just love this car. However I have not looked under a hood in so long I feel like it is my first car. I have a simple problem and I am pretty sure it is timing related but may be something else?
I went out to start the car today for the first time in 2-3 weeks. I am in Michigan and it has been very cold. Today mid to upper 20’s. The car started up but I had to pump the gas a couple times. Something I have not had to do in the past. The idle seemed to be low. I let the car get up to temperature, turned it off, and went to start it up again and it did not start. The engine turned and that was all. I pulled a spark plug and could tell fuel was being delivered. I looked at the distributor and rotor and they are relatively new but the rotor was not pointing towards the contact point in the distributor cap. I don’t remember if this is normal?
I drove the car a lot more during December and never had a problem with it at all.
Any ideas why this may have happened and what to do?
