Continous electrical chime and mystery part 200

Okay, here's what's going on. First a little background for clarification. I've got this '82 245 that I've been converting from diesel to gas for some years now. The car now has an '83 B23F with an M46 trans. but it has the car's wiring harness from an '84 244. The car has not been on the road yet as I'm still working the bugs out. I now have this problem where when I have the key in the run position and I press the brake pedal OR I turn the cruise control to the on position the chime will coninually sound and will go on forever if you let it. I've been using the Bentley wiring diagram for the '84 model 240. I've traced it to a green wire with a red stripe coming off of the left side of the brake pedal switch. This wire goes to a plug that plugs into a small cylinder shaped metal "can" that is about 1 1/4 inches long and has the approximate diameter of a nickel. It is stored in a round metal band that attaches to the steel brake pedal housing. The plug also has a black wire, a brown wire, and a white wire with a black stripe. It is a Sylvania brand and has the part number TR2029 on it. I've spent hours trying to find this in the Bentley manal wiring diagram (for the 1984 model due to the wiring harness) and can't find any reference to it. The same side of the brake light switch has a second green wire with a red stripe that is in the wiring diagram and a red wire. When this green wire with the red stripe is disconnected from the brake pedal switch the problem goes away. Does anyone here have any ideas what this "can" thing is and where I can find it in the diagram or what could be causing this problem. Sorry for the long post but I want to be as clear as can as to what I've found and done already. Thanks in advance.
