1993 Volvo 940 Instument Cluster Swap 900 1993

Recently picked up a nice 1993 940 Volvo non-turbo sedan for my daughter. The car has the Regina speed density ignition and not the Bosch mass air. Previous owner says the speedo stopped working so they replaced the instrument cluster and then the fuel gauge would not work. Sits on empty all the time. I pulled the cluster and determined they replaced it with a unit from a 1991 model - it's stamped "1991". So I know I need to replace the cluster with one from a 93 or 94 non-turbo. A Volvo friend guru tells me I also need to be certain I get a cluster from not only a 1993 non-turbo model but also make certain the donor car has the Regina ignition because the fuel tank sending units in those cars are unique to the instrument cluster. I have been unable to confirm this claim anywhere else. Any truth to this or should a 93 or 94 cluster fix my problem? Thanks everyone. -- Rob
