Transmission Leaking 700 1988

I got under the car yesterday to replace the rear seal of a M47 transmission. Looking a little closer I noticed the leak was coming from the entry point of the shifter linkage and not the main seal. I didn't have the parts so obviously I stopped there. It doesn't look like an easy fix and I'd be laying on my back at my work in the parking lot. I live in Boston without a driveway..Is it something I can do with a couple of ramps or does the trans need to come out? Thanks for any feedback..
