DashPad Cover 120-130 1965

Ok!! When I got this amazon it also came with a new dashpad cover. looks good. made of rigid plastic. (Not installed yet) My question is the original dashpad is not there at all, has been completely removed. I'm assuming this DP cover is designed to fit tightly over the original DP with some adhesive. Any ideas on installing my cover? I was thinking of some sort of cushion underneath or foam (like carpet padding)strategically placed between the metal dash and the new DP cover and screwing it down best I can with some adhesive too!! Also has anyone had any problems with the covers. seems it has the potential of heating in the hot sun and become mis-shapen. Thanx in advance!!
