I LOVE the 240's....Not sure where to go from there.....

Lynn;
I am not familiar with any AT problems - luckily, ours has a manual transmission, I searched for some time to find one. The head gasket issue is well known though, and relates particularly to the 2.5 litre N/A engine in the car you walked away from. It is mainly a problem with year models up to and including 2003 though, when they changed the design. Forester afficionados have a great forum, http://www.subaruforester.org, and the poll they did among the owners confirms that problems are fewer in later years cars. If you stay with the 2,5 turbo engine the head gasket should not be more prone to failure in any other car.

Best of luck,
Erling.
