I have found that if you try to pry the old tip off of the injector; the spacer will get damaged.

I take the NN pliers' tips and grab about a third of the tip. Squeeze gently until the old tip cracks. Now you can pry the old tip off w/ out damaging the injector.
The old tips usually are brittle and the lip of the injector will prevent the non-flexing tip from "popping" off.
