Dash Lights Help 900 1996

My dash board backlights starting going out sporadically about two weeks ago. They would go out after about 5 minutes. Then they started going out sooner. Now, they never come on in the first place. All the indicator lights are fine, it's just the backlights that are off. They are out not only on the instrument panel, but also the radio/AC controls area, as well. Could it be the dimmer switch or possibly something else?
